Getting Back

It is hard to get back into the swing of things after a lovely time in BC with family.  This weekend, I got myself involved in 2 'performance' art pieces by Victoria Stanton through the Ottawa Art Gallery's exhibition Off Grid.

Essen at Shanghai:  the participants paired up and fed each other a meal (with chopsticks no less!)

Welcome:  participants held 'Welcome' mats for 1 hour at a downtown intersection. (No pictures of this yet, but images of a previous performance are on the Ottawa Art Gallery web page)

Earrings

I just finished a custom order for cute shadow box frames for a cherished earring collection.  This is to go in the bathroom with the mosaic floor.  All the earring were clip-ons from the 70's and 80's.  It is functional (you can take the earrings off ) and decorative. What a great way to keep them and have them on display.

ArtsPark

The Hintonburg ArtsPark was a great community event today.  There was art, bands, activities, the Parkdale market...and such a beautiful day!  A lady told me she thought Hintonburg was the new Glebe.  Ha, ha, ha.

Tulip Festival

Everyone else has photos of tulips, but look at the crowds!  The NCC (National Capital Commission) does a pretty fine job at making an event based on some flowers.

Tulip Festival

If you painted a giant tulip, wouldn't you want to give it goofy hug?

Looks like other people like to do the same thing..for the Ottawa Citizen.  No mention of me, but at least the tulip's getting some press..

(the move is over...I am surrounded by boxes.  Everyday I unpack one.  I should be settled by September)

Moving

Everythings packed.  Time to move.  I wonder how long it will take before I get my computer set up again.  Happy moving :)

The Bride

I helped out at this performance piece this afternoon.  I was the 'bridesmaid'.

THE BRIDE
by Gerry Morita (Edmonton)
Friday, April 29, 2005 from 6PM - 7PM
Mackenzie King Bridge, Ottawa

It was part of the SAW Gallery's participation in Alberta Scene (showcase of Alberta artists in Ottawa).  The David Hoffos exhibition at SAW is really something to see.  I took a peak tonight but I think I'll have to go back.

Amy Finished

Here is the final view of Amy after baking.  She's all tied up to her post and looking rather freaked out (wouldn't you if you came to life after an autopsy?).  What a fun and challenging job this was.  Now to make a nice box for her and ship to her off New Brunswick.  Fait Accomplit!

Crow

I worked at Gallery 101 and helped Linda Carreiro install her new exhibition.  The birds (crows...13 of them) are cast paper and very detailed.  David Diviney has work in the upstairs gallery.  The show opens on April 28.

I'm off to Cherry Pie, a women's marketing event at Helsinki.  Tiffany will be there with her photographs, as well as other local businesses run by women.

Bingo

We signed the lease for our new apartment right down the street from Side Door Bingo on Wellington.  I hope I don't ditch my art career to a gambling addiction.  It might be tempting...I do love all those sweet coloured dabbers.  We move next Sunday.  Now for gathering boxes, packing and wondering how I possibly accumulated so much stuff.

Mozaic

Tomorrow (April 23) I will be body painting for Jean Rene's Mozaik UV at La Maison de la Culture in Gatineau from 9-5pm.  It should be fun day of florescent paint, black light and making cool designs on nearly naked bodies.  The public is invited to come by and be a model for this project.  Jean Rene makes a giant mosaic out of all the pictures, prints it up BIG and installs it in a public space.

Amy

Here is an image of the macabre doll I am making out of Sculpey.  This is for a customer in New Brunswick.  This was the listing...and I said, oooh, I can make that:

Background:
Amy is a character from my novel.
She needs to be sculpted tied to a post. The post will be
imbedded in what looks like the sandy sea bottom.

Amy's costume: red adidas seventies style running suit

The jacket is unzipped to her waist revealing her autopsy stitches
that run up her chest forming a Y. Her feet are chewed away leaving
ragged stumps where her feet once were. Her hair is blonde and wet.

In the novel, the character Amy was tied to a post and drowned in the tide.

She came to life later in the morgue. A short film is being made of this
incident next spring through the Film Co-op.

Creepy! I have her mostly finished as well as the stump she is tied to, but I still need to bake her .  Any tips on baking Sculpey, anyone?  Hopefully I'll have images next week of the finished Amy.

Rusty

Here's what a winter's worth of biking looks like: Rusty.  My poor derailer is going to get some TLC tonight at Re-cycles, the fix-your-bike-youself-place with a helpful technician (in my case Mike).  (I would link them, but it is doubtful they have a web page.)  I bought a new chain and new cog for the back tire so soon I will have gears again (woopi!) and it will be fun to learn how to fix a bike....and people won't point and stare are my squeeky chain.

Sculpey

I am doing another little job for someone on the east coast (pictures will be shown soon).  I am making a doll out of this sculpey clay that you bake in the oven.  It is really fun to use...and you can make fun patterns.  So many possibilities!

Shows

Last night was another evening of many exhibition openings.  My friend Eva (of Tsunami glass in Windsor) has a show at Lafeniere and Pai at 13 Murray St.  Eve is a glass blowing-genius-superstar-wonder-gal.    I also popped in at the Ottawa Art Gallery Off Grid.  The is so much going on at that show, I'll have to go back.   I have been meaning to go to Michele Provost at Dale Smith because her stichwork is incredible.  That show is on until April 29.

YAY FOR ART!!!
